01 / THE PURPOSE

Different light.
One controlled view.

A mineral that appears quiet at 365 nm may respond strongly at 310, 275 or 254 nm. Visus Theca began with the need to compare those responses without treating hazardous shortwave ultraviolet as an ordinary display light.

The concept combines wavelength selection, dark observation, visible-light inspection and safety-led containment in one purpose-built cabinet.

02 / PROPOSED SPECTRUM

Four bands.

LONGWAVE · UVA365NANOMETRES

Accessible fluorescence viewing and the proposed longwave reference condition.

MIDWAVE · UVB310NANOMETRES

A middle excitation region that can reveal responses missed at 365 nm.

DEEP UV · UVC275NANOMETRES

An exploratory deeper-UV band, subject to source, optical and safety validation.

SHORTWAVE · UVC254NANOMETRES

The classic shortwave condition for minerals such as willemite—requiring strict containment.

The wavelength set is a development direction, not a confirmed production specification. Source bandwidth, irradiance, filters, thermal behaviour and viewing materials remain to be tested.

03 / SAFETY ARCHITECTURE

Protection must be
part of the instrument.

UVC can injure eyes and skin. The central design principle is that safe operation should not depend on the user simply remembering to look away.

  1. Enclosed exposure spaceUV operation contained inside a purpose-designed observation chamber.
  2. Door-triggered shutdownOpening the viewing access should remove UV output automatically.
  3. Complementary interlocksMechanical and electrical safeguards are development goals, with redundancy to be evaluated.
  4. Wavelength-appropriate barrierViewing materials and filters must be verified for the relevant bands.
  5. Independent white lightVisible-light inspection without energising an ultraviolet source.
